Welcome to Ceferino Shed Gallery

The prints are from the personal collection of filmmaker Don Gerardo Frasco.

Taken during his personal and work travels at different moments in time and different points on Earth, the selection of photographs are curated to resemble triptych stories.

The three photographs collectively called “Elon’s Ark” are composed of “Blue Planet”, “SN21”, and “Echo”.

Blue Planet

November 2017 | Svinafellsjokull, Iceland.

I’ve always found glaciers fascinating and then I learned they are also dangerous. If you fall into one of its many crevices, you will most likely not survive. This is perhaps a common attribute to anything beautiful.

Before visiting Iceland, I had already seen many pictures of glaciers. And in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, Bruce Wayne trains on this specific glacier in order to become Batman. In photos and in films, glaciers look magnificent, and yet it is something truly different when you are there in person. Especially when you grew up in the tropics all your life like I have. All that ice surrounding you is strange. It feels out of this world. I’ve never breathed in air that’s fresher. The sun is so bright but not blinding. And with proper gear, I found the cold quite relaxing.

SN21

November 2021 | Starbase, Texas USA.

A photograph of a prototype Starship dubbed serial number 21 against a majestic Texan sunset. Starship is a fully reusable rocket when completed. Developed and built by SpaceX, it is intended to bring humanity to Mars and beyond.

My wife and I visited Boca Chica near Brownsville, Texas where SpaceX’s rocket factory and testing facility is located. Situated in the far south boundary of America, right next door to Mexico, this sleepy town is waking up to be a promising candidate to be one of Earth’s gateways to Space. When there will be a spaceport for tourists bound for the moon, or for miners bound for an asteroid, or perhaps the first migrants to Mars, those people will likely get on board a Starship and depart from this location. My personal dream is to get to Space in my lifetime. As a tourist. As an explorer. As a curious child.

Echo

May 2017 | Siargao, Philippines.

Local kids from a town in the northern part of Siargao form a line in search of marine life — partly as past time, partly for dinner later that night. The photo was taken during a film shoot on the island.

As the film’s cast and crew had lunch break, I took my camera and explored the beach. This rocky coastline felt like a more pristine version of the beach in Liloan where I spent a lot of my childhood in. It was not surprising to me when the kids showed me an Octopus catch. I’ve seen octopus in the sea many times before. And yet it was still as awesome as it has always been. Seeing an Octopus in its habitat is my closet experience to seeing alien species. They are amazing. That experience brought me wonder and nostalgia. And this photograph does the same.

I hope you’re reading this while enjoying a muffin and a cup of coffee. — Don
